April is the month when the Met Club gears up to promote its major
fundraiser, the Metropolitan Dinner.
The 108th Metropolitan
Dinner will be held on Thursday, May 13 at
the Women’s National Republican Club,
3 West 51st
Street
, with cocktails starting at 7 pm.
Our Guest of Honor will be
gubernatorial candidate Rick Lazio, while
New York
State
Republican Chairman Edward Cox will be the
winner of this year’s Roy M. Goodman
Award. Syndicated
columnist S.E. Cupp will be a featured
speaker.
The Met Dinner is extremely important to our Club.
For more than a century, our
organization has served as a voice of common
sense Republicanism is a mostly Democratic
city, and we have occupied our beautiful
Clubhouse since 1930.
The Clubhouse serves as a meeting
place for Republicans throughout
Manhattan
and far beyond and we host numerous events
of interest and importance to Republicans as
well as serve as campaign headquarters to
many of our local candidates.
But all of this requires the financial support of the entire Republican
community and we rely heavily on the
proceeds from the Met Dinner to continue our
work. The base price for our dinner, a black
tie event including a complete meal, open
bar, speakers program and orchestra is just
$250, well below the price of many
comparable events in the city.
We are in the process of sending out
invitations to the Dinner, but we are
already accepting reservations at mail@metclubnyc.org
or by telephone at 212-288-8606.
While preparing for the Met Ball is a very important part of our April,
the Met Club will continue to host a full
slate of events.
On Tuesday, April 20, the Club is
very pleased to sponsor an evening with
Col. James Carafano, PhD, of the Heritage
Foundation. Dr. Carafano's topic
will be Are We
Safe? Is the Obama Administration
effectively prosecuting the War on Terror
and Preserving
U.S.
National Security? Dr.
Carafano is an accomplished historian and
teacher as well as a prolific writer and
researcher on a fundamental constitutional
duty of the federal government: to provide
for the common defense. Dr.
Carafano’s remarks will be particularly
timely in light of the Obama
Administration’s newly announced policy
limiting the use of nuclear weapons and the
signing by President Obama of a new version
of the START treaty. Admission for this
event is just $20 for members (Met Club and
Heritage Foundation) and $25 for nonmembers.
The reception begins at 6 pm and the
discussion runs from 7 to 8:30 pm.
Looking ahead to early May, we will be holding First Thursday on May 6
at our Clubhouse,
122 East 83rd Street
, just west of
Lexington
. It's the usual great deal, $10 for
members, $15 for nonmembers includes all
refreshments. First Thursday runs
from 6:30 to 9 pm.
While we are still finalizing plans, we expect that May’s First
Thursday will be preceded by a Networking
Group meeting, starting at 5:30.
The Networking Group presents a great
opportunity to meet fellow Republicans
and discuss business opportunities. If
you have an interested in participating in
our May 6 Networking Group, please send an
email to mail@metclubnyc.org.
Important note: Please note that the blood drive sponsored by the
Met Club and the Young Republicans,
previously scheduled for April 17, has been postponed.
We had an excellent response of
potential donors, but unfortunately a
schedule conflict on the part of the blood
bank requires that the event be rescheduled.
Thanks to everyone who signed up and
we will let you know when the event is back
on.
