A Legacy of Principle, Fellowship, and Service Since 1902

In 1902, reformist Republican supporters of President Theodore Roosevelt came together to found what would eventually be knwn as The Metropolitan Republican Club. These dynamic supporters took Theodore Roosevelt’s words, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are,” and made them come to life when, in 1930, they built an elegant, Eugene J. Lang-designed Federal-style townhouse at 122 East 83rd Street—thus creating a stronghold for the Republican movement and its candidates on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It is their spirit that inspires us still.

Originally organized as the Republican Club of the 29th Assembly District, the Club first gathered on Madison Avenue before moving to the Croyden Hotel in 1929. The cornerstone of our permanent home was laid with great ceremony by Congresswoman Ruth Baker Pratt, the first woman elected to the United States Congress from the State of New York. The clubhouse formally opened on October 6, 1930, and has welcomed generations of conservatives ever since.

Throughout more than 124 years, the Metropolitan Republican Club has served as both an operating center for Republican candidates and an intellectual salon for its members. Our elegant ballroom and downstairs “bunker” have hosted countless campaign headquarters—including Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s successful 1993 bid for Mayor of New York City and, in 2005, longtime member Michael R. Bloomberg’s re-election campaign. The Club has also launched many into careers of public service and remains a gathering place where members are informed and inspired through passion and intellect.

Our Signature Annual Metropolitan Gala

The highlight of the Club’s calendar is our signature Annual Metropolitan Gala—also known as the Metropolitan Dinner—a premier black-tie evening that has been featured in The New York Post’s Page Six. This elegant event brings together elected officials, conservative thought leaders, activists, and supporters for an unforgettable night of fellowship, awards, and inspiration.

Over the years the Gala has honored and hosted a distinguished roster of Republicans. In 2019 we honored Andrew McCarthy III, who received his award from Fox News contributor Deroy Murdoch. In 2021 the Club presented the Theodore Roosevelt Award to Rep. Nancy Mace, the Ronald Reagan Award to Steve Forbes, and named Buck Sexton as the evening’s special honoree, with Fr. Andreas Vithoulkas delivering the invocation. We have also been privileged to welcome such notable guests and speakers as Ambassadors Monica Crowley and John Bolton, along with many other prominent conservatives who help make the Gala a true celebration of our shared principles.

Distinct from our regular clubhouse speaker series, the Annual Gala stands as the Club’s most anticipated tradition—an occasion that honors the past, celebrates the present, and looks confidently to the future of the Republican cause in New York City.

Looking to the Future

Today the Metropolitan Republican Club remains a vibrant, active institution in the heart of Manhattan. We continue to offer a rich calendar of monthly socials, lecture series, book events, and in-conversation programs, all of which complement our flagship Annual Gala.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when a state government focused on stifling its citizens’ rights, the Metropolitan Republican Club innovated like no other club or party in the state. We launched our weekly podcast “Met Club at Home,” which brought compelling interviews with leading conservatives such as Kenneth Starr, Pete Hegseth, Miranda Devine, Lee Zeldin, and many others directly into the homes of our members and supporters. In the face of unprecedented restrictions, this initiative allowed us to promote the Republican message, keep our mission alive, and maintain the intellectual fellowship that defines our Club.

Membership is open to all who share our commitment to conservative principles, individual liberty, and limited government. With deep roots in the past and eyes firmly on the future, we warmly invite every generation of New York conservatives—especially our younger members—to step through our doors, draw inspiration from our storied history, and help shape a brighter tomorrow for the Republican cause in America’s greatest city.

A proud history, an important mission, a worthwhile cause. We thank you for your generous support and look forward to welcoming you soon.
